MON PETIT COIN

Si vous m’accusiez d’être casanier, vous auriez tout à fait raison. Et quand j’emploie le verbe ‘accuser’, je ne veux pas dire que vous me reprocheriez quoi que ce soit ! Et de toute façon, encore une fois, vous avez raison: j’adore mon petit chez-moi, et je m’y sens très bien. Ce qui est, je suis sûr que vous serez d’accord, très important, surtout ces temps-ci, où nous passons tous plus de temps à la maison. Pour peu que vous y ayez fait votre nid, tout va bien.

My little corner If you were to accuse me of being a stay-at-home, you would be totally right. And when I use the verb ‘to accuse’, I don’t mean to say that you would be reproaching me of anything ! And in any case, once more, you are right: I love my home, and I feel happy there. Which is, I am sure you will agree, very important, especially these days, when we are spending more time at home. Provided you’ve created a nest for yourself, all is well.

Je me demande surtout si vous aussi êtes des créatures pleines d’habitudes, comme on dit en anglais. Je sais que certain.e.s d’entre vous aurons toute sorte de routine en horreur, et franchement, je ne vous en veux pas. Je ne suis pas non plus une routine très rigide, même si beaucoup de mes journées se ressemblent. Pas vraiment un “métro-boulot-dodo”, vu que j’ai la chance de télétravailler à partir de chez moi, plutôt une régularité qui me sied à merveille. 

I am wondering if you too are creatures of habit, as they say. I know that some of you will see any form of routine as horrific, and frankly, I don’t blame you. I am not following a very rigid routine either, even if many of my days look alike. Not exactly “a rat race”, as I am lucky enough to work from home, but rather a regularity that perfectly fits the bill.

J’adore me lever assez tôt, et prendre un petit-déjeuner pas pressé. A part si j’ai une leçon matinale, où il m’arrive d’être devant mon écran à huit heures du matin à cause d’un décalage horaire ! Je passe le reste de mes journées à enseigner, à préparer mes cours, et à faire les mille et une choses qui demandent mon attention à la maison et dans le jardin. La machine à laver et le lave-vaisselle savent se faire entendre, quand ils le veulent. 

I love getting up rather early, and have a leisurely breakfast. Apart from the times when I have a morning lesson, where you can find me in front of my screen at eight o’clock in the morning, because of a time difference ! I spend the rest of my days teaching, preparing my lessons, and doing the thousand and one things demanding my attention at home and in the garden. The washing machine and the dishwasher know how to make themselves heard, when they want to.

Quand je suis chez moi, je travaille le plus souvent debout à mon bureau, avec de la musique en bruit de fond. J’adore mon petit domaine, où je dispose de tout ce dont j’ai besoin, et où tout est à portée de main. Je dois avouer cependant que j’adore aussi travailler sur la préparation de mes cours devant un bon film, surtout si c’est un film que j’ai déjà vu plusieurs fois. Vous aurez compris que je n’aime pas travailler en silence ! 

When I am at home, I work mostly standing at my desk, with music in the background. I love my little domain, where I have everything I need, and where everything is within my reach. I must confess, however, that I also love to work on my lessons preparation in front of a good film, especially if it is a film I have already seen several times. You will have understood that I hate to work in silence !
