LE KITSCH A LA FRANÇAISE
La chanson française. Ce genre bien particulier, tant aimé en France et pourtant si méconnu hors des frontières de l’Héxagone. De grands noms, encore une fois inconnus ici en Grande-Bretagne, chantent en français depuis des décennies, et rencontrent un énorme succès.
French kitschFrench ‘chanson’. This very particular genre, so beloved in France and totally unknown outside the borders of the country. Big names, once more unknown here in Great-Britain, have been singing in French for decades, and have been hugely successful.
Mais malgré tout ce talent, un usage de la langue française sans parallèle, de la poésie à foison, certains artistes insistent pour donner à ce genre bien français une réputation totalement diabolique, à travers des chansons, si on peut les appeler comme ça, que le mot ‘kitsch’ ne commence même pas à décrire: David et Jonathan, Hélène et les garçons, Licence IV, Bézu, Jordy, Début de Soirée, Sheila et beaucoup, beaucoup d’autres…
But despite all this talent, an unparalleled use of the French language, more poetry than you can shake a stick at, some artists insist on giving to this very French genre a completely diabolical reputation, through songs, if you can call them that, that the word ‘kitsch’ doesn’t even begin to describe: David and Jonathan, Hélène et les garçons, Licence IV, Bézu, Jordy, Début de Soirée, Sheila and so many others…
Depuis la fin des années 80, ce mouvement a heureusement ralenti, mais pas avant d’avoir fait beaucoup rire. Je n’ai cité ici que quelques noms, que vous pourrez aller voir sur votre chaîne vidéo préférée, mais il y en a tant d’autres. Et avant que vous m’accusiez d’être méchant avec ces pauvres artistes, laissez-moi vous rassurer: comme tout le monde, j’ai beaucoup dansé sur leurs chansons très entraînantes.
Since the end of the 80s, this movement has slowed down, thankfully, but not before creating a certain amount of mirth. I have only given you a few names, that you will be able to look up on your favourite video channel, but there are so many more. And before you accuse me of being nasty to these poor artists, let me reassure you: just like everybody else, I danced a lot on their very entertaining songs.
