Salut à tous! Au moment où j’écris ces quelques lignes, le soleil est haut dans le ciel, ainsi que les avions qui foncent vers Heathrow. Sans compter les milans royaux qui tournent, tournent, tournent et montent encore plus haut sans donner un coup d’aile. Et il fait chaud. Je sais que certains d’entre vous ne me croiront pas (Il fait chaud? En Angleterre? Et puis quoi encore!?), et que d’autres vont me plaindre car ils préfèrent la grisaille et la pluie.

Hello all! At the time I am writing these few lines, the sun is high in the sky, as are the planes rushing towards Heathrow. Not forgetting the red kites who turn, turn, turn and climb ever higher without flapping their wings. And it is hot. I know that some of you will not believe me (It is hot? In England? Pull the other one!?), and that others are going to pity me, because they prefer a grey and rainy weather.

Mais moi, je ne me plains pas. Je ne me plaindrai jamais de la présence du soleil et d’un peu de chaleur. Après tout, nous somme en juillet, et même dans le sud de l’Angleterre on a droit à quelques journées d’été, non? Et nous avons maintenant eu droit à quelques unes de ces belles journées. Ce qui fait que j’ai déjà entendu pas mal de gens dire que vraiment, il est temps que ça cesse.

But I, for one, am not complaining. I will never complain about the sun shining or about a bit of  heat. After all, it’s July already, and even in the south of England we have a right to some of those nice days, have we not? And we have now been blessed by a few of these beautiful days. Which means that I have already heard quite a few people say that it is high time that it stopped.

Quand j’entends ça, je ne dis rien. Je souris bêtement, et je ne dis rien. Au risque de me répéter, j’aime la chaleur, le soleil, le ciel bleu, les oiseaux qui volent et même les gros avions pleins de gens qui descendent doucement vers l’aéroport. Je me sens bien sous un soleil de plomb, à l’abri sous mon parasol, avec mon travail, ma musique et une petite brise bien sympathique pour me rafraîchir.

When I hear these comments, I say nothing. I smile stupidly, and I say nothing. At the risk of repeating myself, I like the heat, the sun, the blue sky, the birds flying high and even the big planes full of people slowly descending towards the airport. I feel right under a blazing sun, under the shelter of my parasol, with my work, my music, and a nice little breeze to cool me down.

Une autre raison pour mon amour du beau temps cette semaine: le QG d’ALK va recevoir pas mal d’invités pour la Régate, et j’aime autant qu’il fasse beau pour que tout le monde s’amuse bien, sur l’eau comme dans mon jardin, et pas renfermé à l’intérieur. Alors moi je dis: pourvu que ça dure!

Another reason for my loving the nice weather this week: ALK HQ is going to entertain quite a few guests for the Regatta, and I’d rather like for it to be nice, so that everybody should have a good time, on the water as in my garden, and not shut up indoors. So here’s what I say: long may it continue!
