Do you miss teaching?

People often ask me: do you miss teaching?

The simple answer is: no. I don’t even have to think about it, it’s almost a default setting by now. And if I think about it, the answer is still no, and this for two good reasons.

The first reason is that I enjoyed my time in school. Even if I miss some great friends, if I taught some very good and some very bad children; even if the end of this part of my life was not as I imagined it, it brought me so many great memories that I don’t regret any of it.

The second reason is that I am still teaching! Granted, not in an industrial quantity as in the past, but I have substituted quantity for quality. Now, every lesson I teach gives me the same feeling as I used to have teaching my best or favourite class. Now, each lesson is a lesson I look forward to, and there are not many teachers out there who can say the same thing!

As you will understand, it is easy and interesting to teach people who choose to come to you and want to improve their French. Whether they are beginners looking for the basics or confident speakers looking to add finesse to their French, I take great joy and pride in teaching them. Each lesson is different, because we only work on what my students want to study, or what they need. What they all have in common, though, is that they want to study with me, having found ALK on social media, or, even more flatteringly, through word of mouth.

So ask me that very same question again, and watch me answer it with a smile on my face: I don’t miss teaching at all, as I still have lovely students!

ENSEIGNER TE MANQUE?
