ON VA DE L’AVENT
Vu que je vais devoir vous laisser seul(e)s pendant deux semaines, pour cause de départ en vadrouille, je me suis dit que je devrais vous parler de quelque chose qui est de saison, et qui me travaille un peu l’esprit en ce moment. D’où le titre de cet article, qui je l’espère n’est pas trop obscur. Alors allons-y!
Let’s Advent. Seeing as I will have to leave you on your own for two weeks, as I’m off on another jolly, I thought I should tell you about something that’s quite of the moment, and that has been going through my head for a while. Hence the title of this post, which I hope is not too obscure. So, let’s go!
Cette période, qui commence traditionnellement le quatrième dimanche avant Noël (je sais, je suis en avance, mais comme je vous l’ai dit, je ne serai pas avec vous pendant les deux prochaines semaines!) est pleine à craquer de toutes les préparations qui nous mènent au Jour J. Alors je vous invite à ouvrir une petite fenêtre chaque jour pour vous aider à ne rien oublier.
This period of the year, which traditionally starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas (I know, I’m early, but as I told you, I will be away for the next two weeks!), is crammed full of all the preparations leading us to D Day. So I invite you to open a little window every day to help you not forget anything.
Remarquez, je fais ça plus pour moi que pour vous, car avec les deux prochaines semaines passées à New York et à traverser l’Atlantique, je n’aurai pas le temps de tout faire. Ce qui me sauve la couenne en premier lieu, c’est que je n’envoie pas beaucoup de carte de voeux!
Mind you, I am doing this more for me than for you, because with the next two weeks spent in New York and crossing the Atlantic, I will not have the time to do everything. What is saving my bacon in the first place is that I don’t send many Christmas cards at all!
Mais pour vous, j’imagine qu’il y a toute une série d’événements et d’impondérables à respecter: la pièce de théâtre où votre chérubin est sur scène, l’achat et l’emballage de tous les cadeaux, la dinde ou autre volatile pour le déjeuner, la décoration du sapin… Mais je ne vous apprends ici rien de nouveau, vous savez très bien que cette époque de l’année est très occupée!
But for you, I imagine that there is a whole series of events and non-negotiables to think about: the school play with your cherub on stage, the purchase and wrapping of all the presents, the turkey or other bird for lunch, the decking of the halls… But I’m not teaching you anything new here, you know full well that this time of year is a busy one!
Mais ne vous inquiétez pas, je penserai fort à vous. De votre côté, pensez à moi quand, chaque matin, vous ouvrirez la petite fenêtre de votre calendrier de l’Avent et recevrez votre cadeau, quel qu’il soit (mignonette de gin, jouet, maquillage, parfum, ou chocolat, selon le calendrier!). Vous le mériterez bien, car vous avez une tonne de choses à faire avant le 25 décembre! Au travail, et à bientôt!
But don’t worry, I will think about you. On your side of the bargain, think of me when, each morning, you open the little window on your Advent calendar and receive your present, whatever it be (mini bottle of gin, toy, makeup, perfume or chocolate, depending on the calendar!). You’ll deserve it, as you have a ton of things to do before December 25! To work, and see you soon!
