A new resolution

Well, it is this time of year again. New Year and new start and all that. Personally, I don’t quite go for that sort of thing, especially since my students are providing me with a nice sense of continuation. Starting 2016 with them is a great feeling, that begun last year when the Skype courses started to attract a lot of attention.

And this even from abroad. Imagine my surprise, delight and exhilaration when I received an email coming from Nebraska, USA, asking me about the possibility of a Skype course. Of course, with this kind of technology, it is perfectly possible and despite the time difference, my first international lesson will take place on Wednesday. I was especially pleased with and not a little proud of the fact that this student had been a fan of the blog from the very beginning, proof that there is always someone, somewhere who follows you and enjoys your work.

The same is true of the power of social media, which has helped me find students, and, even more importantly, helped students to find me. Whether it is housemates from East London, or a super good business owner from Hampshire, they are now part of the ALK family, and I give thanks to all of them.

Of course, this means that I have once more to juggle time and resources, and keep track of everyone’s progress, but also deal with preparation work, homework, and marking. But you know what? I love it!!

So bring on 2016, I’m ready for it.

 

UNE NOUVELLE RÉSOLUTION

Et oui, c’est encore une fois cette époque de l’année. Le Nouvel An, nouveau commencement et tout ça. Personnellement, je n’y crois pas trop, surtout avec la bonne impression de continuation que me donnent maintenant mes étudiants. Entamer 2016 avec eux est une joie, qui a commencé l’année dernière quand les leçons par Skype ont commencé à devenir assez populaires.

Et ceci même à l’étranger. Imaginez ma surprise, mon plaisir, mon euphorie, même, quand j’ai reçu un couriel (je sais, c’est laid comme mot…) provenant du Nebraska, USA, me demandant si des cours par Skype seraient possibles. Bien évidemment, avec ce genre de technologie, c’est parfaitement possible et malgré le décalage horaire, ma première leçon internationale aura lieu mercredi. J’ai surtout été heureux, et pas peu fier, du fait que cette étudiante est une fan de mon blog depuis le tout début, preuve s’il en faut qu’il y a toujours quelqu’un, quelque part qui vous suit et apprécie votre travail.

Ce qui s’applique aussi au pouvoir des médias sociaux, qui m’ont aidé à trouver des étudiants et, de façon tout aussi importante, ont aidé mes étudiants à me trouver. Que ce soit les colocataires du East End, ou une businesswoman super douée dans le Hampshire, ils font maintenant partie de la famille ALK, et je les en remercie tous.

Bien sûr, cela veut dire que j’ai à nouveau à jongler avec mon temps et mes ressources, et à prendre note des progrès de chacun, mais aussi à préparer mes cours, à donner des devoirs et à les corriger. Mais vous savez quoi? J’adore ça!!

Alors allons-y, 2016, je suis prêt!
